
A recent article on Aviationweek shows how far the industry can go in developing some "hybrid" solutions where the drone technology can support low cost personnel transportation vehicles, a kind of air taxi, with a minimum number of pilots (the cost of many pilot per plane is usually the cost which grounds any aerotaxi business idea...).
Applying UAV to the civil aviation doesn't necessarily making aircrafts without pilots. It may also include limiting the number of pilots which are needed in order to pilot safely a small airplane. Very interesting. See the Aviationweek article here
